The six senses as explained by Daniel Pink reveal new
requirements to the business leaders and business students. Traditionally,
skills of business communication and business critical thinking and analyzing
were the key factor or element for individual to get a good job. There were
some computer-based skills required as well; but nowadays, as Pink asserts in
his book, the need for Fine Arts has been increased significantly and reached
the level that might lead companies to dispense / lay off some of the employees
who are professionals.
The idea is based on the birth of the conceptual age and laying-off
the linear and logical technology age. It is obvious that the level of today’s
technology broke many rules that were exist for decades which related to the
knowledge monopoly. Nowadays, all knowledge and information needed, to produce
or provide and product or service, are available to the individuals everywhere.
Pink emphasized the need to improve every one’s abilities in: design, Story, Symphony, Empothy, Play,
and Meaning.
The challenge that facing individuals is not learning how
these works; but how makes individuals practicing such talent is the challenge.
We might find way to analyze what every sense means and need to be improved;
but it gonna be hard for individuals to maintain the level that really will
help companies to get rid of MBAs and hire MFAs instead. However, companies
could study each trait or sense individually to determine what each leader or
employees need to focus on.
I do agree with the need of design traits, especially with
the increased knowledge of today’s customers and increased competitors. Design
became more important besides the simplicity and functionality of any product.
Also, the ability of implementing different science to serve
different field is critical. We can imagine how important to use music science
in medical field to help patients get recovery fast. This sense, Symphony, can
has a huge positive impact on the business environment and business decisions to
be more effective.
